Ireen Birungi has held several senior leadership roles including Chief of Information Security Officer (CISO) leading the technology and business security strategy and implementation for a leading Canadian payments company. This includes operationalizing enterprise-wide cybersecurity programs that support continuous improvement; managing security risks and compliance with stakeholders; leading a dedicated team for effective management of incidents; monitoring threats and taking detective and preventative measures and establishing a culture of security awareness.
Ireen has over 20 years of experience helping organizations excel in the areas of cybersecurity, governance, risk management and compliance, vulnerability, and incident management, and IT architecture in a variety of industries across and Public, Private, and Consulting sectors.
Ireen holds a degree in Economics from the University of Toronto and cybersecurity designations: CISSP, CISM, and CRISC, featured article and speaker on Information Security, Women in Payments nomination, an active member of various security forums and community groups of C-level executives and mentors to a national program for emerging cyber leaders.
